The Twins At Linton Abbey
“I wouldn’t normally use it on a boy of your age. And even on an older boy I wouldn’t normally give more than six strokes over the seat of the trousers. It’s very severe, you see, and to use it properly you need to hit as hard as you can manage.”
Donton nodded again.
“I can hit very hard. And because of what you did, and because I promised the Headmistress that I would deal with you severely, your punishment is going to be a bit worse. It’s going to be six strokes. Across the bare bottom…”
Due to his unruly behaviour, James has been asked to leave yet another of the ‘Progressive’ schools he has been used to attending. His parents have decided that perhaps it would be better if, like his twin sister, he experienced the more formal atmosphere at Linton Abbey.
As a fourteen-year-old, James was aghast that he must wear a uniform that included short trousers. He was determined to be expelled as soon as possible, but unlike his previous schools, Linton Abbey was rather different. Corporal punishment was an everyday occurrence for misbehaving boys—but never for the girls—and this was frequently administered by the mistresses and Head Girl.
